Taky se vám zdá nad slunce jasné, že Kanárské ostrovy získaly svoje jméno díky hejnu žlutobarevných okřídlených pěvců? Věřte nebo ne, kanárci nemají s názvem ostrovů nic společného, byť jsou stejně jako Madeira nebo Azory stále jejich domovem. Podle legendy vděčí ostrovy za své jméno obrovským psům (Canis), kteří je střežili před nebezpečím.
A pokud máte Kanárské ostrovy spojené jen s povalováním na pláži, tak vězte, že vám toho nabídnou mnohem víc. Vulkanická pohoří s krátery sopek, rozlehlá lávová pole s krajinou jako na Marsu, sopečné jeskyně i tyrkysové jezero s bílými kraby, solná pole třpytící se v zapadajícím slunci nebo zelenou vinnou révu obklopenou lávovým štěrkem. Nepřijdete samozřejmě ani o proslulé pláže, palmové oázy a nádherné písečné duny.

Pepa Středa je cestující fotograf a vydavatel (hlavně nástěnných horských a krajinných kalendářů), obrazový redaktor. Po ukončení softballové kariéry v roce 1997 začal intenzivněji cestovat a fotit. Fotografuje klasicky i digitálně, preferuje panoramatický střední formát (Noblex PRO 6/150F – objektiv rotuje – formát diapozitivu 5×12 cm). Uspořádal řadu autorských výstav svých panoramat (Tibet, Nový Zéland, Irsko, Bolívie, Thajsko, Kanárské ostrovy, Slovensko, Česko, Hory, Panoramatický svět) a zúčastnil se množství společných (např. se spolkem Panhorama). Shromažďuje bohatý archiv svých netradičních snímků Prahy shora ze stavebních jeřábů a lešení, tedy z neopakovatelných míst.
